Description: British pillboxes in Akraberg in the island Suðuroy, Faroe Islands. These buildings are World War II ruins, made by fortified concrete. The Faroe Islands is a part of the Danish state. But at the beginning of World War II Denmark was occupied by Germany and the Faroe Islands were occupied by Great Britain. People could not travel between the Faroe Islands and Denmark during the World War II period. The Faroe Islands lost many people in WW2 because they had many fishing vessels which were fishing in the North Atlantic, and some of them got bombed by German submarines or had other kind of accidents during the war. The Faroe Islands lost more people per capita than Denmark because of war casualties. This photo is also on my photostream on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/eileensanda/3799653048/
