Description: Water vole conservation project, Allt a Mharcaidh The box in the foreground has been placed to detect tell-tale signs of mink that prey on water voles. It encloses a tray of soft material which will record footprints of any animal passing through; mink are then removed (humanely) to reduce the threat to the voles. The project is a collaboration between the University of Aberdeen, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Cairngorms National Park (from the explanatory notice on the box).
