Description: Portrait of an unknown Laureate Scholar, holding a book with a botanical description of the euphorbium herb and the words "praesentem monstrat quaelibet herba deum" (Every herb points out the presence of God). The Latin quote is from the German poet Johannes Stigel, in Latin: Johannes Stigelius (1515–1562), says a manuscript in the university library of Leiden (Netherlands). According to the museum website, the plants are "euphorbium and dock", which would translate into the botanical names of unidentified Euphorbia spec. and Rumex spec.
