Description: William H. Gleysteen Jr., deputy assistant secretary for East Asian and Pacific affairs, is slated to be the new ambassador to the Republic of Korea, according to a White House announcement on May 31. A former deputy chief of mission in Taipei, 1971-74, Mr. Gleysteen has served also as a member of the National Security Council staff at the White House, 1976-77.
