Description: Yara N-Sensor ALS (ALS = active light source, Xenon flash lamps for night work) mounted on the canopy of a John Deere tractor; presented at the DLG field days 2010, Gut Bockerode, Springe-Mittelrode, Lower Saxony, Germany. – This sensor system 1) scans the crops roughly 5 to 6 metres left and right of the tractor lane, records the light reflection of the plants as an indicator of their current nitrogen uptake, 2) translates the measured data (by using a special software) into fertilisation recommendations, which then 3) are used by the applicator to vary the actually needed amount of fertiliser spread.
