Description: Sidewheel steamship Yosemite embarking almost the entire faculty and student body of the University of Washington on an excursion (in 1908) to view the arrival in Puget Sound of the Great White Fleet. The vessel is clearly overloaded and taking on a noticeable heel. Dangerous practices like this had already resulted in the General Slocum disaster in 1904, which occurred in New York, on an excursion sidewheel steamer built of wood, as was the Yosemite. This was not however the incident which led to the loss of the vessel.
