McDonald's Corporation is the world's largest chain of fast food restaurants. It serves about 68 million customers every day in 119 countries. McDonald's started as a restaurant in San Bernardino, California, in 1940. It grew quickly in the United States. In 1967, McDonald's became an international company. It opened its first restaurant outside the U.S. in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. By the end of the 1970s, McDonald's was in five of the seven continents. An African location opened in Morocco in 1992.
McDonald's offers different menu items in various countries. This is to fit local tastes, food traditions, laws, or religious beliefs. So, a product you find in one country might not be in another. Also, the ingredients for a product can be very different from place to place.

Egypt's McFalafel
In Egypt, McDonald's introduced the McFalafel sandwich in 2001. These restaurants also have a Chicken Big Mac and Fish Mac. These are like the regular Big Mac but use chicken or fish instead of beef. In 2008, they added fish fingers with tartar sauce. Egyptian cookies were also offered in Cairo in 2010. Egypt has almost 70 McDonald's locations.
Morocco's McArabia and More
Morocco offers the McArabia, a grilled chicken sandwich. In 2005, the McSahara was sold for a short time. Later, the Chicken Mythic and other special sandwiches were released. During Ramadan, a special menu is available for breaking the fast. It includes local foods like dates, milk, and harira soup.
South Africa's Local Twists
In South Africa, you can find unique items like McFizz drinks in watermelon and passionfruit flavors. They also have a Chocolate Caramel McFlurry. In China, Chicken McNuggets come with special chili garlic sauce. Chinese menus also have crispy spicy chicken wings called McWings. All chicken burgers use thigh meat, not breast meat. You can find unique ice cream flavors like Matcha Green Tea. Pies come in pineapple or taro flavors. Special flavors like chocolate and azuki bean are sometimes offered. Hong Kong's Busy Restaurants
Hong Kong has some of the busiest McDonald's, many open 24 hours. Breakfasts include pasta soups with sausage or chicken. You can get cups of corn instead of French fries. Indian McDonald's do not serve beef or pork. This is because of Hindu and Islam beliefs. Vegetarian and meat meals are made in separate areas. Cooks for vegetarian dishes wear green aprons, and non-vegetarian cooks wear red. Popular items include the Chicken Maharaja Mac and Veg Maharaja Mac. The McSpicy burgers, McGrill, and Pizza McPuff are also sold. Recent additions include rice bowls, biriyani, and naan wraps.
Indonesia's Halal and Local Dishes
All McDonald's in Indonesia are halal. They serve only beef, chicken, and fish. Local items include crispy and spicy fried chicken. The McRice is a small mound of steamed rice. McSoup is a chicken-flavored soup. Buryam (chicken congee) is also available. Sambal chili sauce is offered as a condiment. Fried chicken, McRice, and fruit tea are sold together as PaNas. Filipinos often call McDonald's "McDo." Menu items include McSpaghetti, Chicken McDo, and Burger McDo. These compete with local fast-food chains. Cyprus's Greek Mac and Shrimp Burger
McDonald's in Cyprus used to sell the Greek Mac, a Big Mac with pita bread and tzatziki sauce. A shrimp burger is sold during Lent when Orthodox Christians do not eat meat.
Czech Republic's McSmažák
The McCountry sandwich is also available in the Czech Republic. In 2012, McDonald's added McSmažák. This is a fried cheese sandwich, similar to the Slovak McSyr.

In Denmark, McDonald's serves Pommes Frites Sauce, which is like remoulade. They also have a small chicken burger called "Chicken Salsa Cheese." A Daim McFlurry is available. You can buy chilli cheese tops, also served in Sweden and Norway.
Finland's Rye Buns and Vegan Options
In Finland, most McDonald's burgers can be ordered with a rye bun. El Maco is a burger with salsa and sour cream sauce. The El Maco meal comes with a barbecue spice mixture for fries. In 2018, McDonald's released the Big Mac with bacon. They also offer the McVegan patty for vegans. Macarons are served at McCafé.
France's Croque McDo and Beer
In France, McDonald's offers donuts for breakfast and Kronenbourg 1664 beer. The Croque McDo and Petit Plaisir items are available. In 2016, they launched an "American Summer" Menu.
Germany's McRib and Big Vegan TS
Standard items at German McDonald's include the Hamburger Royal TS and Caesar salads. They have a vegan burger called Big Vegan TS. The McRib sandwich is a permanent menu item in Germany. Beer is no longer sold at all locations.
Greece's Greek Mac and Deluxe Fries
McDonald's in Greece sells the Greek Mac, a Big Mac with pita bread and tzatziki sauce. Other items include the McToast, Deluxe fries (potato wedges), and onion rings. Heineken beer is served. During Lent, they offer the McVeggie burger, a Shrimp Burger, and fried shrimp.
Hungary's McFarm and Lángos
Hungarian McDonald's sell the McFarm. Limited-time products have included McDonald's version of the popular Hungarian breakfast food lángos.
Italy's Crispy McBacon and Nutella Burger
Italian McDonald's offers Crispy McBacon. It has two beef patties, cheddar cheese, bacon, and a special sauce. They also offered "McItaly" items with Italian ingredients. In 2013, they offered a pasta salad. McCafè has been adapted to Italian taste. A Nutella burger called Sweety debuted in 2016.
Malta's Mozzarella Sticks and McCafe
In Malta, McDonald's sells mozzarella sticks and chicken wings. The Big Tasty is a variant of the Big N' Tasty. Chicken nuggets come with various sauces. The McCafe was first introduced in Malta. The McFtira, a burger with goat cheese in Maltese bread, was also sold.
Netherlands' McKroket and Maestro Burger
In the Netherlands, McDonald's sells the McKroket, a deep-fried roll with beef ragout. Dutch McDonald's serve frite sauce or "American Sauce" with French fries. The ChickenSaté burger was offered with peanut sauce. The Maestro Burger, a large burger with Angus beef patties and bacon, is available. Special Dutch drinks include Fristi and Chocomel.
Norway's Laksewrap and Chicken Salsa
Norwegian McDonald's offer gluten-free buns. They also serve the El Maco seasonally. The Laksewrap is deep-fried fish with salad and mango in a tortilla. The Chicken Salsa is a chicken burger with salsa, sour cream, and nachos. In 2002, the McAfrika burger was introduced, but it caused controversy.
Poland's WieśMac and Burger Drwala
Offerings in Polish McDonald's include the WieśMac ("Country Mac"). The Kurczakburger ("Chickenburger") has a hot Mexican-style sauce. The McWrap comes in Classic and Bekon DeLuxe versions. During winter, you can get Burger Drwala ("The Lumberjack's Burger"). It has a big bun, a quarter pounder, bacon, and a deep-fried cheese piece.
Portugal's Soups and McBifana
Portuguese McDonald's offers a variety of soups, including their national dish, kale soup. They also have a McBifana and a McPrego on a ciabatta roll. The Portugal-specific mixed salad has olives, corn, onions, and tomatoes. A vegetarian burger, McVeggie, was introduced in 2016. Fresh pineapple chunks and apple cinnamon sundae are available for dessert. Beer is served in all restaurants.
Russia's Local Burgers and Blini
In Russia, McDonald's started selling special burgers with ingredients made in Russia. These were called "Beef à la Russe." McDonald's restaurants in Russia serve chicken wings and shrimps. The McZavtrak (McBreakfast) menu offers cheesecake rolls, blini, and oatmeal.
Serbia's McBaguette and Energy Drinks
In Serbia, McDonald's offers the McBaguette sandwich with chicken or ham and cheese. Restaurants offer alcoholic and energy drinks. They also have orange juice and apple juice for kids' meals.
Slovakia's McSyr and McDonuts
In Slovakia, McDonald's offers the McSyr during seasonal campaigns. This sandwich has breaded fried cheese and tartar sauce. It is similar to the Czech McSmažák. Like in the UK, McDonald's in Slovakia serve donuts called McDonuts.
Sweden's Gluten-Free Buns and McVegan
Swedish McDonald's offer gluten-free buns. They also serve the El Maco occasionally. Since 2018, McDonald's in Sweden serves an all-vegan burger called the McVegan. This burger has a soy patty, salad, and vegan McFeast Sauce. Swedish McDonald's also serve a garlic sauce.
Switzerland's "The Prime" Burger
Swiss McDonald's serve "The Prime" Burger. It is a beef burger with bacon, Gruyère cheese, and special sauces. It is one of the most expensive McDonald's burgers worldwide.
Ukraine's McLavash
Ukraine features the McLavash sandwich in the southern part of the country. It is served in flatbread with two spicy beef patties, greens, onion, and tomato.
United Kingdom and Ireland's Chicken Legend
British and Irish McDonald's serve the Chicken Legend. It is a chicken breast with spicy tomato salsa, BBQ Sauce, or mayonnaise. Curry flavored sauce is available for McNuggets. From 2003 to 2005, they had the Quorn Premiere, a vegetarian burger. In 2015, the McMór burger was released in Ireland. McDonald's has also launched various McFlurrys, like Cadbury Dairy Milk and Creme Egg.
North America's Regional Specialties
Canada's Poutine and McMini
In Canada, French fries can be swapped for McDonald's version of poutine. Poutine is now available nationwide. Quebec also saw the limited-time 1967 Burger. The McMini is a small sandwich with grilled or crispy chicken. The McRib appears periodically. The McFlurry originated in New Brunswick.
Mexico's McMollete and McBurrito
Mexican McDonald's do not serve fish, except during Lent. Special items have included the Flaming Hot Doritos Quarter Pounder. For breakfast, they serve the McMollete, an English muffin with beans, melted cheese, and pico de gallo. They also have the "McBurrito."
United States' Regional Dishes
McDonald's in the U.S. offers shellfish dishes regionally. These include lobster rolls in New England and crab cakes in the Mid-Atlantic states. Parts of the Upper Midwest sell Johnsonville Brats. Other regional variations include the Texas Homestyle Burger and Southern breakfast items like country ham biscuits. Locations in the Southwest offer burgers with New Mexico chile.
Hawaii locations offer saimin (noodle soup) and include Spam, Portuguese sausage, and rice for breakfast. Pineapple and taro pies are sometimes offered. Small trays of pineapple can be ordered as a side. These Hawaiian items are also found in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
Puerto Rico's McCriollo
Puerto Rican McDonald's serve fish products. They also serve the McCriollo for breakfast. This is a sandwich with ham, cheese, and egg on a Criollo roll, a type of local bread.
Dominican Republic's McDo Nuggets
In the Dominican Republic, McDonald's sells similar food to the U.S. and Canada. The chicken nuggets meal is called the "McDo."

Australia's McOz Burger
A popular Australian McDonald's item is the McOz Burger. It is a quarter-pounder with lettuce, tomato, cheese, mustard, ketchup, beetroot, and cooked onion. Shaker Fries with various seasonings have also been offered. The El Maco burger is released for a limited time.
New Zealand's Kiwiburger
Many McDonald's menu items in New Zealand are like those in Australia. Unique items include the Kiwiburger. It has a beef patty with McMuffin egg, tomato, lettuce, cheese, onion, beetroot, ketchup, and mustard. In 2011, a special "Kiwi Menu" was featured. McDonald's also relaunched the local fast-food chain Georgie Pie, selling meat pies.
South America's Local Flavors
Argentina's Kosher and Angus Beef
The McNífica is served in Argentina. McDonald's Argentina serves the Big Tasty Angus Burger, made with premium Argentinean Angus Beef. Argentina is the only country besides Israel with full kosher McDonald's locations. Here, burgers are cooked on charcoal.
Brazil's Cheddar McMelt and Banana Pies
In Brazil, McDonald's offers the Cheddar McMelt. It is a beef burger with creamy cheddar cheese and grilled onions. Banana-flavored pies are also served. A vegetarian burger was offered on a trial basis.
Chile's Empanadas and Avocado Paste
In Chile, cheese empanadas are sold as side dishes. Customers can add avocado paste to any sandwich. The McPalta is a burger with avocado paste. In 2010, McDonald's offered the Combo Bicentenario, a beef burger with pebre, a Chilean condiment. For breakfast, they serve croissants and local versions of Chilean sandwiches like Barros Jarpa.
Colombia's McCriollo Breakfast
Colombian McDonald's restaurants serve the McCriollo breakfast combo. It includes a sausage patty, two traditional Colombian arepas, scrambled eggs, and sweetcorn. The McNífica is also served here. The Big Mac is called the Club House.
Ecuador's "Nuestros Sabores"
In Ecuador, McDonald's started selling cheese empanadas and burgers with cheese sausage or guacamole in 2012. This was part of the "Nuestros sabores" campaign to offer more local cuisine.
Peru's Ají Sauce and Inca Kola
In Peru, McDonald's offers ají, a spicy sauce, as a condiment. Peruvian locations also serve Pollo Crujiente ("crunchy chicken"), which is fried chicken, and Inca Kola.
Venezuela's Arepas and Empanadas
In Venezuela, McDonald's offers arepas and empanadas for breakfast. These are traditional breakfast foods. Venezuelan locations have also served fried yuca sticks.
