José García Santesmases (born May 2, 1907 – died October 24, 1989) was a Spanish scientist. He was a physicist and a very important person in the early days of computer science in Spain. He built the first analog computer and the first microprocessor ever made in Spain.

Early Life and Education
José García Santesmases was born in Barcelona, Spain, on May 2, 1907. He loved learning and studied hard.
In 1930, he earned an engineering degree. He got this from a special school in Paris, France, called the École supérieure d'électricité.
He kept studying even more! In 1935, he became a physicist from the University of Barcelona. He even won a special award for his excellent work there.
Becoming a Professor
José Santesmases earned his doctorate degree in 1943. He got it from the University of Madrid.
After that, he taught for two years at the University of Granada. Then, he moved back to Madrid. There, he became a professor at the university.
Important Research and Computers
In 1949, Santesmases worked at a famous science lab. It was called the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge, England.
After that, he spent over a year in the United States. He worked at the computer lab of Harvard University. He learned a lot from a famous computer pioneer, Howard H. Aiken.
José Santesmases was a professor of Industrial Physics. He taught at the University of Madrid for many years. He retired from teaching in 1977.
Legacy and Impact
José García Santesmases passed away on October 24, 1989, in Madrid. He spent most of his science career in this city.
He made a huge impact on computer science in Spain. Because of his important work, a street at the Complutense University of Madrid is named after him.
There is also a museum named in his honor. It is called the García Santesmases Computer Museum (MIGS). You can find it at the Computing Faculty of the Complutense University of Madrid. It shows how important his work was for computers in Spain.
