About José María Lassalle
José María Lassalle was born on October 23, 1966, in Santander. He studied law and earned a special degree called a PhD in Law in 1999. This means he did advanced research and wrote a long paper (called a dissertation) about the philosopher John Locke and how he thought about property.
His Teaching Career
He worked as a researcher and teacher at several universities. These included the University of Cantabria and the Charles III University of Madrid. Later, he also taught at Universidad CEU San Pablo, Rey Juan Carlos University, and Universidad Pontificia Comillas.
His Political Career
José María Lassalle was a member of the Congress of Deputies in Spain. This is like being a representative in a country's parliament. He represented the region of Cantabria. He was elected five times with the People's Party. He stopped being a member of the Congress in December 2016.
Roles in Government
From 2011 to 2016, Lassalle served as the Secretary of State for Culture. This job meant he was in charge of cultural matters for the country. During this time, he worked on new laws to support arts and culture. He also dealt with debates about taxes on cultural goods.
After that, in November 2016, he became the Secretary of State for Information Society and Digital Agenda. In this role, he helped create Spain's plans for digital technology and the internet.
