Juan García Ponce (born September 22, 1932 – died December 27, 2003) was a famous Mexican writer. He wrote many novels, short stories, and essays. He also translated books and wrote about Mexican art.

About His Life and Books

Juan García Ponce was born in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. He became a very important writer in his country. Some of his most well-known books are La aparición de lo invisible (1968) and Las huellas de la voz (1982).

He was part of a special group of writers and artists called the Generación de Medio Siglo, also known as the Generación de la Ruptura. This group included other famous writers like Salvador Elizondo, Inés Arredondo, Sergio Pitol, and Elena Poniatowska. There were also talented artists and painters in this group, such as Manuel Felguerez, Vicente Rojo Almazán, José Luis Cuevas, Roger von Gunten, and Fernando García Ponce. They all helped to create new and exciting art and literature in Mexico.

Juan García Ponce won many important awards for his writing. These awards showed how much his work was valued. In 2007, a magazine called Nexos asked experts to pick the best Mexican novels from the past 30 years. Juan García Ponce's novel Crónica de la intervención was chosen as the third-best book on that list.
