Early Life and Education

Juan José López Ibor studied medicine at the University of Valencia and the University of Madrid. He worked very hard and earned his doctorate degree in 1930. This meant he was fully qualified to be a doctor.

A Career in Psychiatry

After his studies, López Ibor became a professor. In 1932, he started teaching Legal Medicine in Santiago de Compostela. Later, he became a professor of Psychiatry in Salamanca. In 1960, he moved to Madrid to teach Psychiatry at a very important university.

He also started a special magazine called Actas Españolas de Psiquiatría in 1940. This magazine helped share new ideas and research in psychiatry. In 1967, he opened his own clinic in Madrid, called the López Ibor Clinic. This clinic helped many patients with their mental health.

Global Recognition

Juan José López Ibor was respected not just in Spain but all over the world. From 1966 to 1971, he was the president of the World Psychiatric Association. This is a big international group for psychiatrists. Being president showed how important his work and ideas were to doctors everywhere.

His Family

Juan José López Ibor had a family who also became involved in medicine. His son, Juan José López-Ibor Aliño, followed in his footsteps and also became a well-known psychiatrist. He was also a grandfather to María Inés López-Ibor Alcocer.
