Juan Téllez-Girón, 2nd Count of Ureña facts for kids
Juan Téllez-Girón, 2nd Count of Ureña (born around 1456 – died May 21, 1528) was an important Spanish nobleman. He held many titles and was a powerful figure in his time.
Early Life and Family
Juan Téllez-Girón was the third son of Pedro Girón, 1st Lord of Osuna and Inés de las Casas. Even though he was born outside of marriage, a special permission from the Pope (called a Papal bull) made him and his siblings legitimate heirs in March 1466. This was later confirmed by King Henry IV of Castile.
Juan had many family connections. He married Leonor de la Vega Velasco, who was the daughter of Pedro Fernández de Velasco, 2nd Count of Haro. Together, they had 15 children!
Becoming a Count
In 1469, Juan Téllez-Girón took over the titles and lands from his older brother. This meant he became the 2nd Count of Ureña. He held this important position until his death in 1528. After him, his son, Pedro Girón, 3rd Count of Ureña, became the next Count.
