Labra (Georgian: ლაბრა, Abkhaz: Лабра, Armenian: Լաբրա) is a small village. It is located in the Ochamchira District of Abkhazia. Most people living in Labra are Hamshen Armenians. They started the village in 1890. These families moved from a place called Ordu in the Ottoman Empire.
Labra's History
The Georgian-Abkhazian War
In 1993, during the Georgian-Abkhazian war, Labra faced a difficult time. In February and March of that year, Georgian forces damaged the village. They also took things from homes and businesses.
How the War Changed Things
Similar events happened in other villages too. This made the Armenian people in the Gagra District decide to join the Abkhazian side. Before this, they had tried to stay neutral. But after seeing what happened, they formed a group called the Bagramyan Battalion. This group then fought alongside the Abkhazian forces.
