This article lists the 59 people who were chosen to be Members of Parliament (MPs) for areas in Scotland between 2015 and 2017. What is an MP?
An MP, or Member of Parliament, is a person who is elected by people in a specific area to represent them in the UK Parliament. The UK Parliament is where laws are made for the whole country. Each MP speaks for the people in their local area, called a constituency. In 2015, Scotland had 59 of these areas, so 59 MPs were elected from Scotland.
How many MPs did each party get?
After the 2015 general election, the political parties in Scotland had a different number of MPs:
- The Scottish National Party (SNP) won most of the seats, with 56 MPs. This meant they had a very strong presence in the UK Parliament.
- The Scottish Labour Party won 1 MP.
- The Scottish Conservative Party also won 1 MP.
- The Scottish Liberal Democrats won 1 MP.
In total, 59 MPs were elected from Scotland to serve in the UK Parliament from 2015 to 2017.
