Career and Major Works
Louis-Frédéric wrote many books about India, Japan, and Southeast Asia. He was especially known for his work on Asian civilizations.
One of his biggest projects was editing the Encyclopaedia of Asian Civilizations. This huge set of 10 books was published in English between 1977 and 1987. It helped many people learn about different Asian cultures.
Another important book was his Japan Encyclopedia. This book was published by Harvard University Press. It came out in both English and French between 1996 and 2005. It is a very detailed guide to Japan.
Louis-Frédéric wrote about many topics. These included the daily life in Japan during the time of the Samurai warriors. He also wrote about festivals and traditions in Japan. His books covered art, history, and spiritual ideas from India and other parts of Asia. He even wrote about martial arts and archaeology.
