This special tree is believed to have started growing way back in the 12th century. That means it has been standing for around 900 years! Imagine all the history it has seen.

Why is it called the Lover's Oak?

The tree gets its name from an old Native American story. The legend says that young lovers would meet under its big, shady branches. It was a special place for them to share their feelings.

Where can you find it?

The Lover's Oak is located in the middle of Albany Street, just south of where Prince Street and Albany Street meet. This area is part of the historic district of Brunswick.

A Special Recognition

In 1987, a group called the National Arborist Association placed a special plaque near the tree. This plaque celebrated that the tree had been standing for 200 years since the signing of the United States Constitution in 1787. It was a way to honor its long life and importance.

A Recent Event

In 2015, a truck accidentally hit the Lover's Oak. Sadly, one of its large branches had to be removed because of the damage. Even so, the tree continues to stand tall and strong.
