Małgorzata Kalinowska-Iszkowska, born on July 29, 1946, is a talented Polish computer scientist, a teacher, and someone who works to make things better (an activist). She received a special award called the Gold Cross of Merit for her amazing work in computers and technology. She also helped lead the Polish Congress of Women.

Her Journey in Tech

Early Education

Małgorzata finished high school in Warsaw in 1964. In 1970, she graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology. There, she studied how machines can work by themselves (automation) and how computers solve math problems. Ten years later, she earned her doctorate, which is a very high degree in technical sciences.

She helped with research on some of the first computers, like the K-202 and KRTM (UMC-20). She also explored "fuzzy sets," which is a way for computers to handle information that isn't perfectly clear or exact.

Working in the Computer World

In 1992, Małgorzata started working for a company called Digital Equipment Polska. Later, in 1996, she joined IBM Polska, another big name in computers. She then worked at other tech companies, helping to set up special centers for managing skills.

From 2004 to 2007, she worked for HP Polska. There, she was a manager for government affairs, which meant she helped make sure the company followed international rules, especially those from the European Union.

Leading in IT Organizations

Since 1981, Małgorzata has been an active member of the Polish Information Technology Society (PTI). She was on their main board for many years. From 2005 to 2011, she represented PTI in a group called the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS). She even served as the vice-president of CEPIS from 2008 to 2011, and again starting in 2015.

She also helped the European Commission by checking how secure computer information was. In 2002, she started an organization called the Association of Knowledge Management Practitioners and became its president.

Supporting Women in Technology

Since 2000, Małgorzata has been a strong voice for getting more women involved in technical jobs, especially in the IT field. She was on the board of the European Center for Women and Technology and represented them in Poland. In 2016, she was recognized as one of the top ten women leading the Polish IT industry. She also took part in the Polish Congress of Women, which works to support women.

Awards and Recognition

Małgorzata Kalinowska-Iszkowska has received several important awards for her contributions:

  • Gold Cross of Merit (2005) – This is a special award from Poland for her excellent work.
  • TOP TEN award for women managing Polish ICT businesses (2016) – This recognized her as one of the best women leaders in Poland's information and communication technology (ICT) companies.
  • Medal of the 70th anniversary of Polish Informatics (2018) – This medal was given by the PTI to celebrate 70 years of computer science in Poland.
