Early Life and Football Journey
Malcolm Rosas Jr. grew up in Darwin, Northern Territory. His mother comes from Indigenous Australian families (Ngalakgan and Rembarrnga people) in the Northern Territory. His father's family are South Sea Islanders from Queensland.
Malcolm comes from a family with a strong football background. His grandfather, Bill Dempsey, is a famous Australian rules football legend. Bill Dempsey was added to the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2022. He is also in the Hall of Fame for both the WAFL and AFL Northern Territory. In 2005, he was named in the Indigenous Team of the Century.
Growing up, Malcolm played many sports at a high level, including Australian rules football, rugby league, and soccer. However, in his mid-teenage years, he decided to focus mainly on Australian rules football.
He played all his junior football for the Darwin Buffaloes in the NTFL. In 2019, which was his last year as a junior player, he signed to play senior football for the NT Thunder in the NEAFL. Malcolm was also the first player to join the Gold Coast Suns Academy program from their Darwin Academy. He signed a two-year deal with them until 2021.
AFL Career Highlights
In October 2019, Malcolm Rosas Jr. was chosen by the Gold Coast Suns through their academy pre-selection access. This means the Suns had a special way to pick him because he was part of their junior development program.
He made his first appearance in the AFL, known as his "debut," when he was 19 years old. This happened in Round 9 of the 2021 season. He played against the Brisbane Lions in a big game called QClash 20 at Metricon Stadium. Since then, he has continued to play for the Gold Coast Suns, showing his talent as a forward.
