María Cristina Arango Vega (born October 15, 1928 – died September 15, 2017) was an important figure in Colombia. She was the First Lady of Colombia from 1970 to 1974. This means she was the wife of the president at that time, Misael Pastrana Borrero. She was also the mother of Andrés Pastrana Arango, who later became the 30th President of Colombia.
Personal life
María Cristina was born in Bogotá, Colombia. Her father was Carlos Arango Vélez
, a politician from the Colombian Liberal Party. Her mother was María Vega Jaramillo.In 1946, her father was working as the Ambassador of Colombia to the Holy See. This means he was Colombia's official representative in Vatican City. While there, María Cristina met Misael Pastrana Borrero. He was also working as a diplomat at the embassy.
They got engaged that same year. On February 24, 1951, they got married in Bogotá. They had four children together: Juan Carlos, Andrés, Jaime, and María Cristina. María Cristina Arango Vega passed away in Bogotá on September 15, 2017, when she was 88 years old.
