Michael "Clip" Payne (born William Michael Payne on September 25, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan) is an American musician. He has been a part of famous music groups like Parliament, Funkadelic, and The P-Funk Allstars since 1977.

Michael Payne's Music Journey
Michael Payne first appeared on Parliament's album "Gloryhallastoopid" in 1979. He helped with the "Choir Chours" part. Since then, he has been on more than 20 recordings with the Parliament-Funkadelic group. He mostly sings and plays the keyboard. People sometimes call him "The Man in the Box" because he often talks to the audience during live shows.
Payne's first job in music was recording "Twenty-Five Miles" with Edwin Starr. He worked with the famous producer Norman Whitfield on this song.
In the late 1980s, Payne started his own company called WEFUNK International. He used it for his own music projects. Later, in 1999, it became WEFUNK AD2k Records and Filmworks. Payne is the main boss, or CEO, of this company, which is in Woodstock, NY. Some music groups connected to his label include 420 Funk Mob and Cacophonic FM. Payne leads both of these groups. Other artists like Stefanie Keys, Joey Eppard, and Stoney Clove Lane also work with his label.
In the winter of 2019, Michael "Clip" Payne and Parliament/Funkadelic started their last "One Nation Under A Groove" Tour. They toured with other bands like Fishbone, Galactic, Dumpstaphunk, and Miss Velvet and the Blue Wolf. That same year, Payne also started acting. He appeared in an independent movie called "The Plagiarists." Critics liked his acting, saying he did a great job.
