Miro, Count of Barcelona facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Miro, Count of Barcelona (died in Barcelona in 966) was an important ruler in the region of Catalonia. He served as the Count of Barcelona, Gerona, and Osona from 947 until his death in 966. Miro was the son of Sunyer, Count of Barcelona and his second wife, Riquilda.

When his father, Sunyer, decided to step down from his role in 947, Miro began to rule alongside his brother, Borrell II, Count of Barcelona. They divided their responsibilities: Borrell focused on military matters and dealings with other countries, while Miro managed the day-to-day affairs within their own lands.

During his time as count, Miro made gifts to several important religious centers, known as monasteries. These included San Cugat del Vallès, Sant Joan de las Abadeses, and Ripoll. It is also believed that Miro started building the Rec Comtal. This was a very important water channel designed to bring water to the city of Barcelona, which would have been a huge help for the people living there.
