Montreal Children's Theatre facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Montreal Children's Theatre (MCT) is a special theatre group in Montreal, Quebec, just for kids! It was started way back in 1933 by two amazing women, Dorothy Davis and Violet Walters. They didn't just want to make famous actors. Their main goal was to help young people speak clearly, feel good about themselves, and be confident.

Since it began, MCT has put on more than 700 plays for over 250,000 children. Guess what? Even the famous actor William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in Star Trek, used to be a student there!

A Look Back at MCT's History

The very first class at the Montreal Children's Theatre in 1933 was small, with fewer than 25 students. They even started in a basement! Dorothy Davis and Violet Walters led the theatre for a long time, until 1991.

After them, Sheila April, who used to be a student at MCT, took over and managed the theatre until 2006. Then, Leigh Janson Cooke and Ryan Bowels helped run things. In 2019, Sandra Holder became the new president.

Over the years, more than 10,000 people from Montreal have taken classes at MCT. Some of them have even become professional actors in movies, TV shows, and on stage! Many others have appeared in TV and radio commercials, both as kids and adults.
