Early Life and Education
Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan was born on September 8, 1979. He grew up in a humble family in a village called Sangestan, in Hamedan province. He was a bright student and studied polymer engineering at Sharif University of Technology. He even published several scientific articles in both English and Persian before he was 32 years old. He was also a student of Aziz Khoshvaght, a well-known Islamic moralist.
His Family
Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan was married to Fatemeh Boluri-Kashani. She also studied chemistry at Sharif University. His parents were Rahim Ahmadi Roshan and Sedigheh Salari. Mostafa and Fatemeh had one son named Ali-Reza. Ali-Reza was only four years old when his father passed away.
His Passing
Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan was one of several Iranian nuclear scientists who were killed. Others included Masoud Alimohammadi, Majid Shahriari, and Darioush Rezaeinejad. On January 11, 2012, Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan was killed by a bomb attached to a motorbike. This sad event happened in Tehran.
Honoring His Memory
After these events, many university students in Iran wrote letters to the authorities. They asked for nuclear facilities to be renamed after the scientists who had died. Five of these requests were approved. The Natanz enrichment site, where Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan worked, was renamed "The Site of Shahid Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan." "Shahid" means martyr, honoring his memory.
