Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu (born December 31, 1954 – died March 25, 2009) was an important Turkish politician. He was a member of the Parliament of Turkey. He also founded and led the Great Union Party (BBP), which was a political party with nationalist and Islamic ideas.

Early Life and Political Journey
Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu was born in 1954 in a small village called Elmalı. This village is located in Şarkışla, part of Sivas Province, Turkey. He went to school in Şarkışla from primary school through high school. Later, he studied at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ankara University.
Starting in Politics
During his younger years, Yazıcıoğlu was part of a group called the Grey Wolves. After a big change in the government in 1980, he was arrested. He spent seven years in prison and was released in 1987.
After leaving prison, Yazıcıoğlu became involved in politics. He joined the Nationalist Movement Party. In 1991, he and some friends decided to start a new political party. They created the Great Union Party, which focused more on Islamic ideas.
Representing the People
His party, the Great Union Party, often worked with other popular parties to get seats in the Parliament. In the 2002 elections, his party received 1.1% of the votes but did not win any seats. However, in the 2007 elections, Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu was elected to Parliament as an independent member. This means he ran without being officially part of a specific party at that time.
Tragic Death
Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu died on March 25, 2009. He was in a helicopter crash in the southern Turkish province of Kahramanmaraş. This happened after he had attended a political meeting and was on his way to another one. The pilot and three other people on board also died in the accident. After the crash, one of the passengers was able to call for help.
Funeral and Legacy
Yazıcıoğlu received a state funeral, which is a special ceremony for important public figures. Many political leaders attended. Thousands of people gathered for his funeral ceremony at the Kocatepe Mosque in Ankara. After his death, in the 2009 local elections, a candidate from his party, the BBP, was elected as the new mayor of Sivas.
