Munroe & Francis facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Munroe & Francis was a publishing company in Boston, Massachusetts, during the early 1800s. It was started by two men, David Francis and Edmund Monroe. Their business had offices on Court Street from about 1805 to 1807, and later on Washington Street from about 1823 to 1832.

Over time, the company grew. Another partner, Samuel H. Parker, joined them, and for a few years until 1810, the company was known as Munroe, Francis & Parker. One of their most important achievements was publishing the very first Boston edition of William Shakespeare's famous plays between 1802 and 1804.
