Welcome to Murra!
Murra is a small town, or pueblo, nestled high up in the mountains. About 1,000 people live right in the town itself. It has four main barrios, which are like neighborhoods, all fitting into a narrow valley.
Where is Murra?
This mountain town is in the eastern part of the Nueva Segovia department in Nicaragua. Because it's high up, Murra has a much cooler climate than many other parts of Nicaragua. It's a refreshing change from the heat!
Life in Murra
Most people in Murra make their living by farming. They grow important crops like corn and beans. Many also grow coffee, which is a big part of the local economy. Even though the town itself is small, Murra is a central spot for many rural communities nearby. About 17,000 people live in the entire area that Murra serves. This means many people also work as shop owners or vendors, selling goods to everyone.
What's it Like There?
Murra has modern conveniences like electricity and a system for running water. You can find several pulperias, which are small shops where you can buy everyday items. If you're hungry, there are three comedores, which are like small restaurants. For visitors, there are two hospedajes, which are very small hotels. The community also has one Catholic church and two Protestant churches for people to worship.
