About Ningiukulu Teevee

Ningiukulu Teevee was born in 1963. She was once known as Ningeokuluk, but in 2017, she started using Ningiukulu. This change matched the name on her official ID. Her parents were Joanasie and Kanajuk Salomonie. Her father-in-law, Jamasie Teevee, is also a well-known artist.

Ningiukulu Teevee is a leading artist at the Kinngait Co-operative. She taught herself how to draw and paint. She began her art career in the 1990s. She often uses ink and colored pencils for her art. She also works with black fiber-tip pens, oil sticks, and watercolors.

Her art shows many different things. She creates images from her memories and knowledge of Inuit folklore. She also adds funny parts of everyday life in Nunavut. Her art tells rich Inuit stories. These stories show how the land and animals are connected. They also share family histories that are important to Inuit culture.

As a modern Inuk, Ningiukulu grew up in a town. She explores new ideas in her art. But she also keeps her interest in her culture. This includes the Inuit oral tradition, which means telling stories by speaking them. She listens to stories from Elders, who are older, wise people. She then uses her own imagination to show these stories in her art.

Awards and Books

Ningiukulu Teevee is not only a great artist but also a successful children's author. Her first children's book is called Alego.
