Noé Jitrik (born January 23, 1928 – died October 6, 2022) was an important Argentine literary critic. A literary critic is someone who studies, understands, and writes about books and other written works.
Early Life and Career
Noé Jitrik was born in Argentina on January 23, 1928. He grew up to become a well-known figure in the world of literature. He was the director of the Instituto de literatura hispanoamericana (Institute of Spanish-American Literature) at the University of Buenos Aires. This means he led a special part of the university that focused on books and writing from Spanish-speaking America.
In the 1950s, he was also a key part of a cultural magazine called Contorno in Argentina. This magazine was a place where writers and thinkers shared their ideas about art, society, and literature.
Views on Literature
Noé Jitrik was very interested in the works of other writers. At first, he admired the famous Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. However, over time, Jitrik started to feel that Borges's later works, especially after 1960, did not offer new ideas.
Jitrik's opinions on Borges became more complex. He wrote about these thoughts in an article in 1981 for a magazine called Les Temps Modernes. This shows how critics like Jitrik carefully study and share their thoughts on books and authors.
