Noemí Goytia (born in 1936) is an architect and professor from Argentina. She is an expert in the history of buildings, how we think about them, and how new projects are designed. She also focuses on protecting old buildings and places. In 2014, she won a special award called the CICOP Lifetime Achievement Award. This award came from a group that works to save important historical sites. Noemí Goytia has written many books and articles about her work.

Growing Up and School

Noemí Lucrecia Goytia was born in Salta, Argentina, in 1936. Her father was an engineer, and her mother taught math. Because of her father's job, her family moved a lot. She lived in different Argentine cities like Salta, Choele Choel, and La Plata.

In 1955, her family moved to Córdoba. There, she started studying at the university. She went to the Faculty of Architecture at the National University of Córdoba. Noemí Goytia finished her studies and became an architect in 1963.

Her Work

In 1964, Goytia moved to Mendoza. She became an associate professor of Architecture History at the Universidad de Mendoza. She helped Enrico Tedeschi set up the direction for this new school.

Even while teaching in Mendoza, she kept working with the National University of Córdoba. From 1964 to 1968, she was a leader for practical work in a group led by Marina Waisman.

In 1993, a special "Laboratory" was created within the History of Architecture department. Noemí Goytia led this lab from 1995 to 2005. It was a place for students to study architecture history in a new way. They could see how history connects to design.

In 1996, Goytia worked with Marina Waisman and others to start a training center. This center helped people learn how to research the history and ideas of architecture. It was part of the National University of Córdoba.

Her last job at the university was as a professor of Architecture History II. She held this position from 1991 to 2005. Her teaching and research focused on using history to understand buildings and help with new designs. She also studied how design projects are made.

Noemí Goytia has led many research projects. These projects received money from important science groups like CONICET and the European Union. She has written many specialized books and articles. These writings are about architecture history, city planning, protecting old buildings, and design. Other experts and professionals often use her books and articles. She also gives talks and presentations about architecture.

Personal Life

At the end of 1966, Noemí Goytia got married. She and her husband, Daniel Moisset de Espanés, moved back to Córdoba for good. Daniel is also an architect and a professor. They often work together on research and writing. Noemí Goytia is the mother of architect Inés Moisset.

  • 2014: CICOP Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Center for Heritage Conservation.
