About the "Sagip" Story Contest

In August 2009, two groups, the Philippine Transmarine Carriers-Carlos Salinas Jr. Foundation and the Outlooke Pointe Foundation, started a special storybook writing contest. The contest was called "Sagip," which means "to save" in Filipino.

Why the Contest Was Held

The main goal of the "Sagip" contest was to help kids learn to read and write better in English. It also aimed to teach everyone about protecting our oceans and marine life. The theme for the stories was "Saving our seas."

More than 500 people, from 7-year-olds to 84-year-olds, sent in their stories. On Tatay's Boat, written by Cey Enriquez, was chosen as the winning story.

A special guest at the launch was director Ramon Espeleta from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The beautiful pictures in the book were drawn by Nelz Yumul.
