Pascual Tomás Taengua (born in 1893 – died on May 4, 1972) was an important Spanish leader who worked to improve the lives of workers. He was a main leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), a political party in Spain.
Pascual Tomás was born in Valencia, Spain. His father was a worker, and Pascual himself left school when he was only 8 years old to start working.
When he was 15, Pascual joined the Valencian Socialist Association. This group worked for the rights of people, especially workers. Later, at age 21, he also joined the Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT), which is a big union for workers.
Pascual's Leadership Role
Pascual Tomás became a very important figure in both the UGT and the PSOE.
Leading the UGT
From 1944 to 1968, Pascual was the General Secretary of the UGT. This means he was the main leader of this large workers' union for many years. He worked hard to represent and support workers' rights.
Leading the PSOE
He also became a leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) between 1964 and 1967. This political party aims to create a fairer society for everyone.
Pascual had to leave his role as General Secretary of the UGT in 1968 because of health problems. He passed away in Valencia on May 4, 1972.
