Pedro de Obregón (1597–1659) was a talented Spanish artist. He was known for his paintings and also for making prints.

Early Life and Training

Pedro de Obregón was born in Spain in 1597. He learned how to paint from a famous teacher named Vincenzo Carducci. Obregón was one of Carducci's best students. He became very good at drawing, just like his teacher.

His Artworks

Obregón painted many pictures for different people. He didn't paint as many for public places, but some of his works were very important.

One of his well-known paintings was The Apparition of the Infant Jesus to Saint Anthony. This painting was made in 1633. You can find it in the Santa Clara convent in Villacastín, Spain.

Printmaking

Besides painting, Pedro de Obregón also created prints. These are images made by carving into a surface and then pressing it onto paper.

One of his prints was of Saint Dominic in Soriano. He made this from a drawing by another artist, Alonzo Cano. He also made a smaller print showing a woman painting. There's even a special print that was given to King Charles II of Spain and Queen Mariana of Austria. It was signed with his initials, "P º Obregon".

His Family

Pedro de Obregón had two sons who also had artistic talents. His son, Diego de Obregón, was a writer who focused on illustrating books. Another son, Marcos de Obregón, became a priest and also tried his hand at engraving, which is a type of printmaking.
