Philip Rashleigh (born 1689, died 1736) was an important person from Cornwall, England. He owned a lot of land and was a politician. From 1710 to 1722, he was a member of the House of Commons. This is a big part of the British Parliament, where laws are made.

Philip Rashleigh's Early Life

Philip Rashleigh was born in 1689. His father was Jonathan Rashleigh, who was also a Member of Parliament. His mother was Jane Carew.

When Philip's father passed away in 1702, Philip was still young. He inherited his family's large estates, including Menabilly House. Because he was a minor (under 18), his uncles looked after his affairs.

Philip went to Winchester College from 1704 to 1706. After that, he studied at New College, Oxford starting in 1707, when he was 18 years old.

In 1710, Philip Rashleigh became a Member of Parliament for Liskeard. He was elected without anyone running against him. He was a member of the Tory political party.

Philip was not a very active Member of Parliament. He was re-elected in 1713 and again in 1715, still without anyone running against him. In 1715, a political leaflet was sent to him that the government stopped because they thought it was dangerous. He decided not to run for election in 1722.

Around 1710 to 1715, Philip Rashleigh also oversaw the rebuilding of his family home, Menabilly House.

Death and Family Legacy

Philip Rashleigh passed away on August 12, 1736. He never married. His estates, including Menabilly House, were inherited by his younger brother, Jonathan.
