Redoute's Choice (born August 15, 1996 – died March 26, 2019) was a very successful Australian Thoroughbred racehorse. He won many important races, known as Group One races. After his racing days, he became a top breeding horse, called a champion sire.

His father was the famous horse Danehill. His mother was Shantha's Choice. She was a half-sister to other Group One winners like Hurricane Sky and Umatilla. Shantha's Choice also had other successful foals, including Platinum Scissors and Manhattan Rain.

Racing Career of Redoute's Choice

Redoute's Choice was owned by his breeder, Muzaffar Ali Yaseen, and trained by Rick Hore-Lacy.

Early Races and Big Wins

Redoute's Choice won his very first race, the Veuve Cliquot Stakes, on February 20, 1999. Just seven days later, he won the important Blue Diamond Stakes. He beat his future rival, Testa Rossa, by two lengths.

Redoute's Choice was expected to win the Golden Slipper, a very rich race for young horses. But he had to pull out of the race the night before because he had a fever. Another horse named Catbird won that race instead.

Three-Year-Old Season

When he was three, Redoute's Choice returned to racing. He won the Manikato Stakes, which was his third big win in a row. This made him a Group One winner very early in his career.

After that, he had a few mixed results. He finished third behind Testa Rossa in the Invitation Stakes. But three weeks later, in the Caulfield Guineas, Redoute's Choice beat Testa Rossa in a tough race. Another future breeding horse, Commands, came in third.

Later, Redoute's Choice, Testa Rossa, and Commands all raced in the Cox Plate. This is a very challenging race, and none of them finished in the top spots. The famous mare Sunline won that race.

Final Races

In the new year, Redoute's Choice raced three more times, all in Group One races. He came second in the Australia Stakes. Then he won the C F Orr Stakes, beating the same filly. In his last race, the Futurity Stakes, he finished third behind Testa Rossa and Miss Pennymoney.

Redoute's Choice earned over A$1.5 million during his racing career. After this, a company called Arrowfield Stud bought a big share in him. He then started his career as a breeding horse.

Stud Career (Breeding)

After he stopped racing in 2000, Redoute's Choice became a breeding horse at Arrowfield Stud. This means he would father new racehorses.

Redoute's Choice was named the best first-time father horse in Australia in 2004. He was also the overall champion sire in 2006, 2010, and 2014. He became known as the best breeding horse in Australia, just like his own father, Danehill.

He was especially good at producing fast two-year-old horses. His children won the top spots in races like the Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond. He also had many Group One winners who were three and four years old.

Redoute's Choice produced about 150 horses who won "stakes" races, and 30 Group 1 winners. Some of his famous children include Miss Finland, The Autumn Sun, and Snitzel. Six of his sons also became fathers of Group 1 winners themselves! You can see more details about his offspring here: ASB - SW progeny.

Redoute's Choice was also very popular at horse sales. For nine years in a row, his young horses sold for the highest average prices at the Australian Easter Yearling Sales.

In 2013, Redoute's Choice even spent a breeding season in France. He bred with some of the best mares in Europe, including Zarkava, who was named European Horse of the Year.

Redoute's Choice passed away on March 26, 2019, at the age of 22. He was put to sleep kindly because he had problems moving that could not be fixed.
