The Rhodes–Haverty Building is a historic 21-story building in Atlanta, Georgia. When it was built in 1929, it was the tallest building in the city. It was designed by famous Atlanta architects Pringle and Smith. The building was built by two important furniture business owners, A. G. Rhodes and J. J. Haverty. It stayed the tallest building in Atlanta until 1954.

From 1995 to 1996, the building changed from offices into a hotel. It became a Marriott Residence Inn, known as the Residence Inn Atlanta Downtown. This building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is an important historical site in the United States.

Why the Name Rhodes–Haverty?

The building was built for the Rhodes Haverty Investment Company. This company was a team-up between two furniture business leaders. They were Amos G. Rhodes of Rhodes Furniture and J. J. Haverty of Haverty's. The building was named after their investment company. It was not named after an older furniture company they had. That company, called Rhodes–Haverty Furniture Company, had already closed down.

A Neighboring Landmark

Right across Peachtree Street from the Rhodes–Haverty Building is another interesting building. It is called the English-American Building. People often call it the Flatiron Building. This is because of its unique shape, which looks like an old-fashioned clothes iron.
