Ricardo Gutiérrez Abascal was born in Bilbao, Spain, in 1883. He traveled to Germany for his education. This helped him learn a lot about art and culture from different places.

Career and Exile

In 1931, Ricardo Gutiérrez Abascal became the director of the Madrid Museum of Modern Art. This was a very important job. He was in charge of many famous artworks. However, in 1939, he had to leave Spain. He moved to Mexico and lived there for the rest of his life. This happened because of political changes in Spain at the time.

His Writings and Legacy

Ricardo Gutiérrez Abascal wrote several important books about art. These books helped people learn about modern artists. Some of his well-known works include:

  • Julio Antonio (1920)
  • Victorio Macho (1926)
