Robert Christopher Franks Jr. (born December 18, 1996) is a professional basketball player from the United States. He currently plays for the Ibaraki Robots in Japan's B.League. Before becoming a pro, he played college basketball for the Washington State Cougars.

Growing Up: Robert's Early Basketball Days
Robert Franks grew up in Vancouver, Washington. He went to Evergreen High School. There, he was the captain of his school's basketball team for his last three years.
High School Achievements
As a junior, Robert averaged 19 points and eight rebounds per game. He was named All-Region by The Columbian. He also received an honorable mention for Class 4A All-State. This award came from the Associated Press.
Before his senior year, Franks decided to play college basketball at Washington State University. The Seattle Times rated him as a three-star recruit. They also said he was one of the top 25 recruits in the state. In his senior year, he was again named All-Region. He also received another honorable mention for All-State.
College Basketball Journey
Robert Franks played four seasons for the Washington State Cougars. For his first two years, he mostly played as a substitute.
Freshman and Sophomore Years
As a freshman, he played in 23 games. He averaged 2.2 points per game. He played about 8.3 minutes each game. In his second year, he played in all 30 of the Cougars' games. He averaged 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Junior Year Breakthrough
Before his junior year, Robert lost over 25 pounds. This helped him become a starter. He finished the season as the 7th best scorer in the Pac-12 Conference. He averaged 17.4 points per game. He also averaged 6.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
He was named honorable mention All-Pac-12. He also won the Pac-12 Most Improved Player of the Year award. In one game against California on January 13, 2018, he set a school record. He made ten three-pointers out of 13 attempts. He scored a career-high 34 points in that game.
After this season, Franks thought about joining the 2018 NBA draft. However, he decided to return to Washington State for his senior year.
Senior Year Success
In his senior year, Robert played in 27 games for Washington State. He started 26 of those games. He missed five games because of an injury. He led the conference in scoring with 21.6 points per game. This was the 24th highest in the nation. He also had the ninth-highest rebounding average with 7.2 per game.
He was named first-team All-Pac-12. He also became the first Washington State player since 2012 to be named to the NABC All-District 20 team.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Robert Franks worked out for several teams. He also took part in the NBA G League Elite Camp. However, he was not chosen in the 2019 NBA draft.
Starting with the Hornets and Swarm
On July 3, 2019, Franks signed a special contract. This was a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets and their NBA G League team, the Greensboro Swarm. On January 15, 2020, the Charlotte Hornets decided to let Franks go. He had not played in a game for the main team. For the Swarm, he averaged 18.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.
Moving to Stockton Kings
On February 4, 2020, Franks was traded to the Stockton Kings. On February 19, he scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a game.
Time with Lakeland and Orlando Magic
On November 27, 2020, Franks signed with the Orlando Magic. He was later waived but joined their G League team, the Lakeland Magic. He played 14 games for Lakeland. He averaged 12.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. He shot well, making 50.8% of his shots and 35.6% of his three-pointers.
In three playoff games, he averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds. He helped the Lakeland Magic win the G League title in 2021.
On April 12, 2021, Franks signed a 10-day contract with the Orlando Magic. He signed a second 10-day contract on April 22. However, he was waived five days later.
Playing in Australia
On August 28, 2021, Franks signed with the Brisbane Bullets in Australia. He played for them during the 2021–22 NBL season.
On June 10, 2022, Franks signed a two-year deal with the Adelaide 36ers, another Australian team. He left the 36ers after one season.
Playing in Israel
On February 14, 2023, Franks signed with Hapoel Gilboa Galil in the Israeli Basketball Premier League.
Recent Teams
After playing in Israel, Robert Franks joined the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins in Japan for the 2023–2024 season. Since 2024, he has been playing for the Ibaraki Robots, also in Japan's B.League.
