Seager Wheeler's Maple Grove Farm is a very special place in Canada. It's known as a National Historic Site of Canada. This means it's important to Canada's history. The farm belonged to a clever farmer named Seager Wheeler (1868–1961). People called him the "Wheat King of the Prairies." He was like a wizard with plants!

Seager Wheeler figured out how to grow crops in dry areas. He also created new types of wheat and fruit. These plants could grow well in the short prairie summer. They could also survive the very cold winters. Seager came to Canada in 1885. He started his own farm in 1890. His farm was near the town of Rosthern, Saskatchewan. You can find the restored farm about 7 km east of Rosthern. It covers about 185-acre (0.75 km2). Between 1911 and 1918, wheat grown here won five World Wheat Championships! In 1996, the farm became a National Historic Site. It's honored because of the strong wheat and fruit types developed there. These plants were perfect for the prairie weather.

History of the Farm

Seager Wheeler was a very creative farmer. He came up with many new ways to farm in dry conditions. He even invented new farm tools. He won many awards for his work. He developed types of wheat and fruit that could grow in the short prairie season. He also found seeds that could survive the winter. All his ideas helped farming become strong in Saskatchewan.

Seager Wheeler's brother, Percy Wheeler, also had a farm nearby. Seager and Percy worked together. They created a special system to clean seeds. Farmers still use a similar system today!

In 1996, a group called the Seager Wheeler Historic Farm Society bought the farm. They opened it to the public. Now, visitors can learn about Seager Wheeler's farming methods. They can also see the tools he used. The society helps everyone understand how Seager Wheeler helped prairie farming. In 1996, the Seager Wheeler Historic Farm Society won an award from Parks Canada.
