Seattle Children's Theatre facts for kids
The Seattle Children's Theatre (SCT) is a special place in Seattle, Washington, where plays are made just for young people. It started in 1975. SCT performs at the Seattle Center in two theaters. One theater has 482 seats, and the other has 275 seats. Their main shows run from June through September. SCT also has a drama school. This school helps young people learn about acting and theater arts.
SCT is part of several important groups. These include Theatre Puget Sound, International Performing Arts for Youth, and Theatre Communications Group. Being part of these groups helps SCT connect with other theaters and artists.
By 2020, SCT had put on over 269 plays. A big part of these were "world premieres." This means 120 of the plays were shown for the very first time at SCT!
Learning at SCT: Drama Programs
SCT offers many ways to learn about theater. They have special education programs. These programs are held at schools and other places around Seattle.
The Drama School
The main Drama School at SCT has classes all year long. Professional artists teach these classes. During the summer, the school puts on its own shows. This gives young people a chance to act and learn about theater. It helps them get hands-on experience in the arts.
Deaf Youth Drama Program
From 1994 to 2007, SCT had a special program. It was called the Deaf Youth Drama Program. Brothers Howie and Billy Seago started this program. SCT is known for creating great theater, educational programs, and new plays for young audiences.
