Sedgefield is a cool neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. It's located between Park Road and South Boulevard, and it's part of the popular South End (Charlotte neighborhood) area.

Sedgefield is super close to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, only about 3 miles away. You can even walk to the Bank of America Stadium from here! The neighborhood has a mix of homes, from duplexes (houses split into two living spaces) to single-family houses, all on streets lined with trees. Over time, homes in Sedgefield have become more valuable, especially because of new buildings along South Boulevard. Many houses have been updated or even completely rebuilt and made bigger. In 2014, a company called Redfin even said Sedgefield would be one of the "hottest neighborhoods" in the country for rising home prices!

Sedgefield covers an area of about 493 acres. That's like 370 football fields!

It shares borders with other Charlotte neighborhoods like Myers Park and Dilworth. Charlotte's biggest hospital, Carolinas Medical Center, is located nearby in Dilworth.

In 2012, about 3,200 people called Sedgefield home. The average age of people living here was 32 years old.

The average household income in 2012 was about $70,000. The neighborhood has a strong group called the Neighborhood Association that helps residents. Lots of new apartment buildings are being built on the west side of Sedgefield. This is happening because of the LYNX Blue Line, which is Charlotte's Light Rail system. Because of all this new building, the number of people living in Sedgefield was expected to double by the end of 2015!

Getting Around Sedgefield

Sedgefield is known as one of Charlotte's best neighborhoods for walking. You can easily get to many places on foot.

Public Transportation

Almost all homes (98%) in Sedgefield are within a short walk (half a mile) of a bus or train stop.

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has buses that serve Sedgefield:

  • #12 (South Boulevard route)
  • #19 (Park Road route)

The city's only Light Rail line, the LYNX Blue Line, goes right through Sedgefield. It connects residents to the city center, also known as Uptown. The LYNX stop for Sedgefield is called New Bern Station.

Main Roads

Park Road and South Boulevard are two big roads that help people travel into and out of Charlotte.

Sedgefield Park also has a path that connects people walking to the nearby Dilworth neighborhood.

Parks in the Area

Freedom Park is Charlotte's most popular public park. It's huge, covering 98 acres! Many events happen there throughout the year, including the famous Festival in the Park.

Sedgefield Park is a favorite spot for local residents. It has tennis courts, basketball courts, and a playground for kids.

Schools, Churches, and Shops

Kids living in Sedgefield go to schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system. Older students might attend Myers Park High School.

Sedgefield is also home to Sedgefield Middle School and Sedgefield Elementary School. There's also a private school, Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School, located on Park Road.

Library Access

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library has a branch located at the southwest corner of Sedgefield.

The main churches in the neighborhood are Sedgefield United Methodist Church and the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Shopping and Dining

You can find many restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance in Sedgefield. There's a wide variety, from small, local diners to Asian restaurants and even family-run bakeries. Most of these are found along South Boulevard and the extension of Park Road. In 2013, a large 55,000-square-foot supermarket was being built on South Boulevard. There was also a microbrewery (a small place that makes its own beer) located in Sedgefield.
