Lega Pro Prima Divisione was an important football league in Italy. It was the third highest level of professional football in the country.

About the League

This league was first started in 1935. It was a big step for many football teams hoping to reach higher levels of Italian football. Teams played hard to get promoted to Serie B, which is an even higher league. But if teams didn't do well, they could be relegated to Lega Pro Seconda Divisione, a lower division.

The league had 36 teams in total. These teams were split into two different groups, usually called Group A and Group B. Each group had 18 teams. This made sure that teams played against others from different parts of Italy.

How Teams Played

Teams in Lega Pro Prima Divisione competed each season to win their group or finish high enough to get promoted. The champions of each group would usually move up to Serie B. This was a huge achievement for any club.

The league was a key part of the Italian football system for many years. It helped develop new players and gave smaller towns and cities a chance to see their local teams compete at a professional level.

End of an Era

The Lega Pro Prima Divisione was eventually changed. In 2014, it was combined with the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione to form a new, single league. This new league was simply called Lega Pro. This change was made to make the Italian football system simpler and more organized.

Even though the Lega Pro Prima Divisione no longer exists by that name, its history is an important part of Italian football. Many famous players and teams have played in this division on their way to bigger things.
