Soap&Skin is the stage name for an Austrian artist named Anja Plaschg. She was born on April 5, 1990. Her music is often described as experimental. This means she likes to try new and different sounds.

Anja Plaschg's Early Life and Music

Anja Plaschg grew up in a small village. It was called Katzendorf, near Gnas in southeast Styria. Her parents had a farm there. She started playing the piano when she was six years old. At 14, she began learning the violin. Around this time, she also became interested in electronic music.

She went to the Graz Polytechnic for Graphic Design. However, she left at age 16. Soon after, she moved to Vienna. There, she studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts. She was in a special class taught by Daniel Richter. But she left again when she was 18.

Music Career and First Album

Anja Plaschg played only a few concerts. Even so, people quickly called her a "Wunderkind." This means someone who is very talented at a young age. In 2008, she acted in a play. She played the German singer Nico. The play was called "Nico - Sphinx aus Eis." She sang several songs in it. One song was "Janitor of Lunacy" from her first EP.

Her first album was named Lovetune for Vacuum. It came out in March 2009. The album received great reviews. It also reached the top 10 in Austria. It was popular in Germany, Belgium, and France too. Many music journalists thought she was a rising star.

Challenges and New Music

Anja Plaschg's father passed away in 2009. This sad event deeply influenced her music. It especially shaped her second album, Narrow. In 2010, she won a European Border Breakers Award. This award recognized her success around the world.

Her songs have been used in movies and TV shows. "Brother of Sleep" and "Marche Funèbre" were in the thriller War Games: At the End of the Day in 2010. Her song "Wonder" was used in the Belgian film All of Us in 2019.

In 2011, she created the song "Goodbye" with Apparat. This song was featured in the TV show Breaking Bad. Later, it became the main song for the German Netflix series Dark.

Acting and Recent Works

In 2012, Anja Plaschg started acting. She played a character named Carmen in the Austrian movie Stillleben. Two of her songs, "Italy" and "Safe with Me," were used in the Italian film Sicilian Ghost Story (2017).

Her third full album was released on October 28, 2018. It was called From Gas to Solid / you are my friend. A music video for the song "Heal" came out in August 2018. The song "Italy" was also used in the 2022 film Corsage.

In September 2021, Anja Plaschg announced new concerts for 2022. She also shared that she was exploring her family's history. She wanted to understand the "roots of trauma, evil, pain" from her European ancestors. Her latest album, Torso, was released in 2024. She also created music for the 2024 film The Devil's Bath.
