Old St. Anne's Church is a historic Episcopal church located in Middletown, Delaware. It is a very old and important building that has been a place of worship for hundreds of years. The church you see today was built in 1768, but there was an even older wooden church on the same spot around 1705.

A Long History
The story of St. Anne's Church began a very long time ago. The first church building was made of wood and was built around 1705. This means it was standing even before the United States became a country!
Queen Anne's Gift
A special part of the church's history involves Queen Anne herself. She was the Queen of Great Britain from 1702 to 1714. Queen Anne gave the church a special "covering for the communion table." This was a very kind and important gift from a queen across the ocean.
The Stone Church
The wooden church was eventually replaced by the stronger stone building we see now. This new church was built in 1768. It has stood for over 250 years, watching history unfold around it. Later, in 1888, a new town church was built for the growing community.
