Building the Church
The idea for St Michael's Church started a long time ago. The first stone, called the foundation stone, was put in place on October 6, 1851. A very important person, the Bishop of St. Asaph, helped with this ceremony. The church was then officially ready and opened on July 12, 1853.
The person who designed this beautiful church was an architect named Thomas Henry Wyatt. Architects are like artists who design buildings, making sure they are strong and look good.
Ancient History Nearby
Even though St Michael's Church is from the 1800s, there's even older history very close by! About half a mile (0.65 miles) northwest of the church, on the Holywell Golf Club, you can find two ancient burial mounds. These mounds are called "round barrows" and are known as Clwt Militia in Welsh, which means "Militia Patch."
These round barrows were built during the Bronze Age. The Bronze Age was a time in history, thousands of years ago, when people used bronze to make tools and weapons. These mounds were often used as burial places for important people from that time. It's amazing to think that people lived and built things in this area so long ago!
