Summer Term at St. Clare's is an exciting book by British author Enid Blyton. It's the third story in her popular St. Clare's series. The books are all about the fun and adventures of twin sisters, Patricia and Isabel O'Sullivan, at their boarding school.
Adventures at St. Clare's
The story begins with twins Pat and Isabel O'Sullivan excited for their first summer term at St. Clare's. But a small problem pops up! They visit a friend who has the mumps. Because of this, the twins have to stay home for a week. They can't go back to school right away.
When they finally arrive, their friends give them a warm welcome. Five new girls have joined their class.
Meet the New Students
- Sadie: An American girl who is very rich and stylish. She quickly becomes friends with the twins' cousin, Alison. Sadie loves fashion and looking good. She isn't a big fan of sports, but she does enjoy swimming.
- Carlotta: A girl with a wild look and a Spanish background. She has a secret past with a circus. Carlotta is brave and kind, especially when others need help.
- Bobby (Roberta): A mischievous but very likable girl. She loves playing tricks and quickly becomes good friends with Janet.
- Prudence: A pretty girl who isn't very friendly. She can be mean and dishonest. Prudence doesn't like Carlotta and tries to cause trouble for her.
- Pam: A very shy girl who works hard at her studies. She finds it hard to stand up for herself at first.
Classroom Challenges
Miss Roberts, the head of their form, wants her girls to do very well. She hopes they will all move up to the next class. The twins and their friends start to get to know the new students better.
Prudence causes some problems. She dislikes Carlotta and finds out about Carlotta's circus past. Prudence tells everyone Carlotta's secret, hoping it will make others dislike her. But it has the opposite effect! Everyone thinks Carlotta is even more interesting and brave.
Prudence also tries to control the shy Pam. She pretends to be Pam's friend, but she's not really kind. Pam feels stuck and doesn't want to be alone. But with encouragement from Carlotta and Isabel, Pam finds her courage. She finally stands up to Prudence and ends their difficult friendship. Pam then becomes good friends with Carlotta instead.
Bobby, who loves playing tricks, doesn't seem to care much about schoolwork at first. But Miss Theobald talks to her and helps her understand the importance of working hard. After that, Bobby starts to focus on her studies, though she still enjoys a good prank now and then!
A Daring Rescue
During the term, something exciting happens. Sadie, the American girl, is kidnapped! Carlotta, who is very clever and brave, finds Sadie tied up in a car. Carlotta quickly thinks of a plan. She creates a fake car accident to stop the kidnappers. With help from her old friends from the circus, Carlotta manages to rescue Sadie!
The term ends happily for most of the girls. Prudence leaves the school because no one wants to be friends with her after her mean actions. Sadie, who is very strong, recovers well from her adventure and plans to go back to America. The other girls are excited to move up to the second year. Pam, however, is a bit too young to move up, but she is happy with her new friends.
