T'Melle Rawlings, known by her stage name T'Melle, is an American singer, dancer, and songwriter. She performs R&B and hip-hop music. Before becoming T'Melle, she was known as T'Nef.
Early Music Journey
T'Melle was discovered by Lisa Lopes, also known as "Left Eye" from the famous music group TLC. Lisa Lopes added T'Melle to a girl group she was helping to create called Egypt. The group also included Joy "Zada" Lonon, Katrina "Akila" Gibson, and Sophia "Isis" Gibson. Lisa Lopes was their mentor and manager, guiding them in their music careers.
Sadly, on April 25, 2002, Lisa Lopes died in a car crash in Honduras. T'Melle was also in the car and was seriously injured. She could not walk on her own for some time after the accident. T'Melle left the group Egypt and needed many surgeries on her left leg and hip. She used a wheelchair during her recovery.
Building a Solo Career
As a teenager, T'Melle decided she wanted to continue her music career. She convinced her parents to let her move to Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, she met Walter Sutton, who was the CEO of Infra-Red Entertainment.
T'Melle soon caught the attention of the famous singer Usher. She joined him on a tour in Europe as his only female background singer. She also impressed Grammy Award-winning producer Tricky Stewart. He became her mentor and helped her grow as an artist.
