Teresa Borràs i Fornell facts for kids
Teresa Borràs Fornell (born July 30, 1923, in Manresa – died July 18, 2010, in Mataró) was a talented Catalan composer, music teacher, and pianist. She created many unique musical pieces and taught music to students for many years.
Her Musical Journey
Teresa Borràs started her music studies when she was just eight years old. She went to the Liceo Conservatory in Barcelona. There, she learned to play the piano and guitar, and also studied harmony. Harmony is about how different musical notes sound good together. She had great teachers like Molinari, Agosti, and Vito Frazzi. Later, she continued to learn about harmony, counterpoint (which is like writing different melodies that fit together), and composition (how to create music) with Cristòfor Taltabul.
Studying in Italy
In 1950, Teresa won a special scholarship to study at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy. A scholarship is like a grant that helps pay for your studies. She won it again two years later! At this academy, she learned to play unusual instruments like the harpsichord and the harp. This added to her skills on the piano and guitar.
Teaching and Awards
Teresa Borràs was also a dedicated teacher. For seven years, she taught piano and guitar at the Municipal Music School of Manresa. She also taught piano and harmony at the Music School of Mataró. Later, she became a professor at the Institute Alexandre Satorras.
She received several important awards for her work. In 1979, she won the Summer School Fellowship for Composition "Music in Compostela." In 1997, she was honored with the "Caterina Albert i Paradis" prize.
Between 1947 and 1953, Teresa was a concert pianist. This means she performed her music for audiences. Even after she retired from teaching, she kept composing new music and performing as a concert pianist. She also released three albums of her recorded works.
