Terminator (character) facts for kids
The Terminator is a famous robot character from the Terminator movies. It's also known as the T-800 or Cyberdyne Systems Model 101. This powerful robot is often played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the movies, Terminators are special machines made by a supercomputer called Skynet. Their job is to sneak into human groups, watch them, and sometimes even get rid of them.
The first time the Terminator appeared was in the 1984 movie The Terminator. In that film, it was the main bad guy. Even though that first Terminator was destroyed, other robots that look just like it show up in later movies. In some movies, like Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the Terminator played by Arnold Schwarzenegger actually becomes a good guy, helping the humans fight against other Terminators. This idea of having different robots look the same helps the story feel connected for the human characters. The name "Terminator" is also used for other human-like robots in the movies, such as the liquid-metal T-1000.

What is a Terminator?
The Terminator is a very strong robot soldier and assassin. It was created by a powerful computer system called Skynet. Skynet's main goal is to wipe out the Human Resistance.
How Terminators Work
Terminators are designed to act very much like humans. They can:
- Speak naturally, just like people.
- Copy other people's voices perfectly.
- Read human handwriting.
- Even sweat, smell, and bleed!
However, Terminators usually don't have human feelings like pity or fear. They only learn these emotions if they spend a lot of time with humans. Once a Terminator starts a mission, it won't stop until it's finished, or until it's destroyed.
Finding a Terminator
Later Terminator models look so much like humans that it's hard to tell them apart. But there's a trick! Dogs get very nervous and bark loudly when a Terminator is nearby. Because of this, the human resistance uses dogs to find out if someone is a robot.
In the first movie, a character named Kyle Reese explains that the T-800 model was a big improvement. Earlier robots, like the T-600, were easy to spot because their skin was made of rubber, not real human tissue. Some newer Terminators, like the Guardian or Carl, even start to show more emotions and can appear to age over time.
Special Features
One cool thing about Terminators is their power source. It can last for an amazing 120 years! They also have very advanced computer brains that can learn new things and understand complex tasks.
A classic sign of a Terminator is the faint red glow in its eyes when it's working. When a Terminator shuts down, this glow fades away. In all the movies, if a Terminator's eyes aren't glowing, it means it's out of action. This red eye glow is so famous that many Terminator toys and collectibles have light-up eyes!
