First Episodes (Pilots)
Art Clokey's very first clay animation film was called Gumbasia (1953). It was a short film that showed clay shapes twisting and turning in cool patterns. When Clokey showed it to a producer named Sam Engel, Engel thought it would be great for children's stories.
On January 29, 1955, Clokey made the first pilot episode called "Adventures of Gumby," but it never aired. Soon after, with help from Engel, Clokey made a second pilot called "Gumby on the Moon." This was the first time Gumby appeared on TV, shown on Howdy Doody. It was a big hit, and that's how The Gumby Show got started!

Gumby Episodes
It's hard to know the exact order or original air dates for all the early Gumby episodes. The lists below are based on how the characters' voices and looks changed over time. Many of the episodes from the 1950s were originally 11 minutes long. But when they were shown again with episodes from the 1960s, they were often split into shorter parts. Sometimes new scenes were even filmed for these shorter versions!

Short Clips (Bumpers)
When Gumby episodes aired, especially during commercial breaks or before the show started, there were short animated clips called "bumpers." Here are some examples:
- Pokey shoots Gumby out of a cannon.
- Pokey rolls a giant green clay ball off a cliff, and it turns into nine mini Gumbys.
- Gumby inflates a balloon, but then he and Pokey get inflated into bigger, fatter versions!
- Pokey throws a baseball, Gumby swings and misses, making a springy noise.
- Gumby and Pokey are aerial fighters, and Gumby leaves an ammo hole shaped like him.
- Gumby and Pokey are inside a rocket about to blast off, leaving a cloud shaped like Gumby.
- Gumby and Pokey are on a chess board.
- Gumby turns into a puddle, Pokey pops out from above the puddle, and enters a conference hall.
- Gumby (returning to the show) says, "Here comes another adventure with me and all my friends!"
- Gumby (for a commercial break) says, "Don't go away! I'll be right back with all my pals after this."
- Pokey (returning) says, "Holy Toledo! Here's another Gumby Adventure!"
- Prickle (for a commercial break) says, "Hang on. Gumby will be right back after these messages. You can count on it."
- Goo (returning) says, "Here comes more fun with Gumby and pals!"
- Professor Kapp (for a commercial break) says, "Goodness gracious! There will be more Gumby Adventures right after this!"
- Gumbo and Gumba (returning) – Gumbo says, "Here comes another adventure with our son Gumby, and his friends." Then Gumba says, "I'm so proud of our boy!"
- Minga (for a commercial break) says, "Stay right here. My brother Gumby will be back after these messages."

Official Releases
Since 2015, NCircle Entertainment has been releasing the original 1950s and 1960s series, the 1980s revival, and Gumby: The Movie on DVD in North America. They've released sets like The Gumby Show: The Complete 50s Series and The Gumby Show: The 60s Series. Some episodes from the 1960s were left out of these sets because they contained old stereotypes that are not appropriate today.
In Australia, Beyond Home Entertainment released a full collection in 2013. This special seven-disc set includes almost every episode from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1980s, plus Gumbasia and some short clips. These versions are new and improved from the original films.
Before the 1980s revival, Family Home Entertainment released many 1950s and 1960s Gumby episodes on VHS tapes. These tapes had the original sounds. Later, new sounds had to be recorded for some episodes because of music rights.
Other companies like Kid Rhino Home Video and Classic Media also released Gumby DVDs over the years, including special collections and Gumby: The Movie with bonus episodes. In Japan, Columbia Music Entertainment released "Gumby Best Selection" DVDs with Japanese subtitles.
Online Viewing
Many restored Gumby episodes became available online starting in 2007. You could watch them for free on sites like AOL's In2TV and later YouTube. Some episodes were also available to buy on Amazon's video service.
In November 2014, the first two seasons of Gumby were launched on the children's on-demand network Kabillion, making it easy to stream them.
