The Moors, Bishop's Waltham is a special natural area in Bishop's Waltham, Hampshire. It covers about 28-hectare (69-acre), which is like 70 football fields! This site is officially known as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because it's super important for its wildlife. A big part of it, about 14.5 hectares (36 acres), is also a Local Nature Reserve. This means it's a place where nature is protected and people can visit to learn about it. The Hampshire County Council looks after this amazing place.

What Makes The Moors Special?

The Moors is a fantastic example of wet meadows that haven't been changed by farming. These meadows are like natural sponges, soaking up water. They also have areas called alder carr, which are wet woodlands filled with alder trees. All the water from these areas flows into a central spot called Mill Pond.

A Home for Unique Plants

Because the land is so wet and natural, many different kinds of plants grow here. In the really wet parts, you'll find lots of greater pond sedge. This plant looks a bit like tall grass and loves soggy ground. In the drier spots of the meadows, you can see plants like purple moor-grass and meadow foxtail.
